Aliens intend to take over the planet and, just in case Godzilla tries to interfere, have built a mechanical version of him to put an end to his interference. The Earth humans summon the legendary King Seesar to assist Godzilla in the battle.
Aliens create a giant mechanical version of Godzilla, Mechagodzilla, in an effort to destroy Japan. The mechanical creature nearly defeats Godzilla until our rubber- suited hero enlists the help of a fellow Kaiju, the dog-like King Seesar, to defeat the new bionic beast. With the exception of the original films, none of the Godzilla movies are all that serious, but this one seems downright gonzo when the aliens are revealed to be gorilla-like creatures, particularly during one shootout when one of the aliens has half of his human mask removed. What makes or breaks most Godzilla films are the subplots involving the human characters, which if they are boring (as is in most Godzilla films), the movies drag between monster battles, but when the human stories are interesting it makes the film worka whole. "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla" also features a fun jazzy score by Masaru Sato, who scores many films for Akira Kurosawa, and the movie contains plenty of bright colorful Kaiju battles. Overall, this is probably the best of the Godzilla films of the 1970s and is well worth watching for fans of our favorite Japanese monster.
I absolutely love Godzilla, always have always will and this was my first Godzilla film and my favourite. Don't get me wrong I love the original 1954 classicwellThe Return of Godzilla 1984 but this is still the best. The reason, Mechagodzilla makes his first appearance and though we have had at least five different versions of Mechagodzilla this design is still the best.<br/><br/>A woman has a prophecy that when a black cloud appears, a huge monster will arrive to destroy the world, however when the sun sets two monsters will appear to fight the evil monster and save the world. Meanwhile Godzilla appears from the mountain and goes on a rampage and absolutely hammers poor Anguirus in a brutal and bloody fight. From there Godzilla wreaks havoc on the power plant and it is from here we understand that this Godzilla is not what he seems. Sure enough the real Godzilla appears and fights with the imposter who then transforms to Mechagodzilla controlled by aliens from outer space.<br/><br/>Both Godzilla and Mechagodzilla shoot their beams at each other and basically knock each other out big time. Godzilla is thought to be dead because of the heavy blood loss while Mechagodzilla's mechanics are damaged and needs to be fixed. I won't carry on if you haven't seen it but rest assured the finale is brilliant.<br/><br/>As mentioned this is my favourite of all Godzilla movies, not only is it action packed, the human side story is engaging and the aliens (which we later find out are apes) are menacing. Also Mechagodzilla to me is easily Godzilla's most powerful foe (sorry King Ghidorah) and the finale will have you covering your eyes in horroryou will think that Godzilla will meet his end.<br/><br/>If you enjoy this, I recommend you watch the sequel Terror of Mechagodzilla.

After the fake Godzilla beats up Anguirus and leaves him with a broken jaw, we don't see him again. Since this was the last movie from the first series he has appeared in, people have often wondered about his fate. Since this movie supposedly takes place in 1974, and <a href="/title/tt0063172/">Kaijû sôshingeki (1968)</a>, in which Anguirus also appeared, takes place in 1999, this means that he must have survived.
